Android is a new and well-designed OS, especially as a replacement to a normal Linux. Though Android is based on Linux, it provides much more than a unflavored Linux. It isolates the application through a very thoughtfully designed middle layers, and yet to tightly connect the applications via content types, API calls, and the normal IPC mechanisms.
Android is a good candidate for an Embedded System.
